We lost everything in the erosion collapse: help the Riverside neighborhood start over

After the erosion collapse, families in the Riverside neighborhood need clean water, roofing materials and bedding.

The erosion collapse hit the Riverside neighborhood on 3 September. My home was one of 72 damaged, and 12 families are still in temporary shelter at the local school gym. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $1,100 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $520 • Clean water and purification supplies: $130 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $100 • Food parcels for displaced families: $270 • Tools and labor for repairs: $80 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

  • Hope it all works out. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Thinking of Kano.

    • sending strength, Kemi. More neighborhoods should do this. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best.

Sure. The biggest one is roofing sheets and timber, $520. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Let me know if you want more detail.
