The water account is 3 months behind. Kelechi received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on November unless $150 is paid. He had never been late before my partner leaving the household. Kelechi called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $10 first, which isn't available. The household includes a parent on oxygen therapy, and going through winter without water isn't safe. Without it we can't refrigerate insulin and food, or keep the house at a safe temperature. Kelechi is working on getting back on his feet, and wants to pay it forward once steady. The money will go directly to the utility provider, and I'll post the paid statement here. Where the $150 goes: • Utility arrears: $90 • Reconnection and late fees: $20 • Down payment on a payment plan: $40 I hope life is good to you. - Hauwa

Updates from Hauwa

  1. Quick update: $5 raised so far (3%). the plan for down payment on a payment plan is now scheduled. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Thank you all. We're at 53% now ($80). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the utility company and confirmed the amounts.

  • You're not alone, Hauwa. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.

Thinking of you and your family, Hauwa. This could happen to any of us. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.

      • hope it all works out. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
