Walter was diagnosed with cervical cancer in January. The oncology team at the Düsseldorf Oncology Institute has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in April. He will be away from work for about 12 weeks. Walter is 35, worked as a farmer until January, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Düsseldorf Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $6,200 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,900 • Scans and lab work: $1,100 • Transport to the Düsseldorf Oncology Institute: $610 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $740 • Household costs while unable to work: $850 I hope life is good to you. - Lena

  • Hope things get better soon, Lena. I hope things turn around soon. After 8 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

    • Rooting for you, Lena. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Put this on a community board in George this morning.

      • Take care, Lena. Your post was clear and honest. All the best.
