Valve repair surgery for Regina: covering what insurance won't
After an aortic valve defect, Regina was cleared for valve repair surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Regina was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in June. The surgeon at Duque de Caxias Orthopedic Institute recommended valve repair surgery, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,000, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $1,500 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Duque de Caxias Orthopedic Institute since June. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Regina struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Regina won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
