Valve repair surgery for Kayode: covering what insurance won't
Kayode needs valve repair surgery at Ogbomosho University Hospital and the family is $1,200 short of the hospital's estimate.

In January I was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated. My surgeon at Ogbomosho University Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for March. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $1,200 short.
Doctors at Ogbomosho University Hospital told me a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a security guard, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,500 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a security guard have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $570
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $350
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $100
• Post-operative medication: $40
• Physiotherapy sessions: $90
• Travel and lodging for the family: $50
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
