Valve repair surgery for Herman: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled valve repair surgery in August is out of reach without help covering $1,150 of the cost.
🇵🇭 Pasig, Metro Manila, Philippines1,047 views
In May I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Saint Mary Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for August. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,650, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $1,150 short.
Doctors at Saint Mary Hospital told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a market vendor, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,650 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a market vendor have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. I'll not be able to lift anything heavy during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $1,150 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $470
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $360
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $75
• Post-operative medication: $65
• Physiotherapy sessions: $90
• Travel and lodging for the family: $90

Hope it all works out. This could happen to any of us. I went through something like this 2 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless.
It takes guts to ask. Well done. It's not much but it's yours. Thinking of Pasig.
