For five years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Unity Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $145, and the remaining cost is $750. It will serve about 142 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $750 goes: • Materials: $610 • Permits and inspections: $20 • Safety equipment and signage: $60 • Tools hire and delivery: $60 Thank you for reading my story.

  • You're not alone. More neighborhoods should do this. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. All the best.

    • Praying for you, Nafula. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't give up. Take care.
