Unity Park needs a free library and reading room - Aravind's neighborhood project

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Unity Park, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $190, and the remaining cost is $650. It will serve about 231 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $650 goes: • Materials: $490 • Permits and inspections: $55 • Safety equipment and signage: $35 • Tools hire and delivery: $70 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
