For five years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 29 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Park, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $600. It will serve about 411 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $600 goes: • Materials: $420 • Permits and inspections: $50 • Safety equipment and signage: $65 • Tools hire and delivery: $65 Thanks for being kind about this.

  • Thanks for sharing this, Umar. This could happen to any of us. I have a 10 year old who wants to send good wishes too.

    • shared this with my family. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care!
