Two weekends of roof repair for Elias, a single mother of three in Fort Worth

The roof at Elias's home is failing; materials are donated and we need hands.

I'm a single mother of three living in Fort Worth. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 3 places, and the living room is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $3,750, which isn't something I can pay. The good news: a local hardware store has donated the roofing sheets and nails. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for three or four volunteers who can help over a weekend. Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is sturdy shoes, gloves and a willingness to work. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks. The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too. If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.

  • You're not alone, Elias. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Take care.

    • Take care. Gave what I could, wish it was more. After 15 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything

      • Sending good thoughts, Elias. A secure home matters so much. Hope you're settled soon. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. God bless.

        • Keep going. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I went through something like this 12 years ago and strangers helped me out. Thinking of Fort Worth.

          • You're not alone, Elias. Hope you get there
