Violet is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a nursing degree at Flint Polytechnic, and is two terms away from graduating. She has worked as a shop assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $5,300.
The registrar has said Violet can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Violet has a top-ten-percent average, and a department head has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Violet would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
Violet isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Flint Polytechnic bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $5,300 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $1,900
• Final term tuition: $3,050
• Exam and lab fees: $100
• Textbooks and materials: $250
