Shanice is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a pharmacy diploma at Cape Town University, and is one semester away from graduating. She has worked as a barista to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,150.
The registrar has said Shanice can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Shanice has a first-class average, and a faculty supervisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Shanice would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
Shanice isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $1,150 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $260
• Final term tuition: $800
• Exam and lab fees: $45
• Textbooks and materials: $45
