Mateo is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying an electrical engineering diploma at Medellín Community College, and is one term away from graduating. He has worked as a shop assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,150.
The registrar has said Mateo can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Mateo has a top-ten-percent average, and an academic advisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Mateo would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Mateo isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Medellín Community College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $1,150 goes:
• Final term tuition: $450
• Exam and lab fees: $30
• Outstanding tuition balance: $670
