Kemal is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a computer science degree at Istanbul State College, and is two terms away from graduating. He has worked as a warehouse packer to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,600.
The registrar has said Kemal can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Kemal has a first-class average, and a professor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Kemal would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Kemal isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $1,600 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $700
• Final term tuition: $800
• Exam and lab fees: $20
• Textbooks and materials: $80
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
