I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a computer science degree at Nairobi Polytechnic, and I'm one semester away from graduating. I have worked as a warehouse packer to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $900.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a distinction average, and my faculty supervisor has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $900 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $290
• Final term tuition: $500
• Exam and lab fees: $40
• Textbooks and materials: $70
Thanks for reading all this.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Hellen.
So sorry you're going through this, Hellen. I hope things turn around soon. Thinking of Nairobi
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Wish I lived closer to Saint-Denis so I could bring a meal. Love from Mwanza.
a colleague of mine might know someone for this in Nairobi. I'll ask around and let you know.
praying for you. Shared it with a few friends.
