I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying an accounting degree at Amsterdam University, and I'm one term away from graduating. I have worked as a delivery rider to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $2,950. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a 3.6 average, and my professor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Amsterdam University bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $2,950 goes: • Textbooks and materials: $230 • Outstanding tuition balance: $2,600 • Exam and lab fees: $120 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Anne

  • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Anne.

    • Sure. The biggest one is textbooks and materials, $230. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Thanks for looking so closely.

  • Hope it all works out, Anne. As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn. My neighbor in Mthatha donated after I showed her your page.

Take care, Anne. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. All the best.

      • how is Anne doing now?

        • I hope things turn around soon. Put this on a community board in Takoradi this morning. Thinking of Amsterdam.

          • Sending good thoughts. This could happen to any of us. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. God bless.

            • Good luck with the exams, you've got this. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Savar

              • hope it all works out, Anne. Shared this with my family. After 23 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Ikeja
