Tsion needs a cochlear implant processor upgrade - help us make it happen
Tsion needs a cochlear implant processor upgrade that the health system won't fund; the cost is $900.
🇪🇹 Addis Ababa, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia1,271 views
Tsion lives with a spinal cord injury. The occupational therapist at Addis Ababa General Hospital has assessed her and recommended a cochlear implant processor upgrade. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $900.
Her current equipment is 8 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined her to home for 4 weeks.
With the right equipment Tsion could get to the shops and visit friends. It would change everyday life for the whole family.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered.
Where the $900 goes:
• First-year servicing plan: $30
• Fitting and training sessions: $25
• cochlear implant processor upgrade: $845
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Sending good thoughts, Yared. This could happen to any of us.
Hang in there. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Put this on a community board in Nairobi this morning. All the best.
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Tsion.
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. first-year servicing plan comes first ($30) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Thanks for asking.
Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Thinking of Addis Ababa.
how is Tsion doing now?
good luck, Yared. I hope things turn around soon. Love from Amsterdam.
is there anything that isn't money that would help Tsion?
Thank you. If you're in Addis Ababa I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Appreciate you taking the time.
Good luck, Yared. Shared this with my family. Please keep us posted. Greetings from Iztapalapa
Wishing you peace. Looking forward to the next update. Thinking of Addis Ababa.
Thinking of you and your family. Hope this works out for you. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Blessings.
Hope things get better soon. Your post was clear and honest. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
Hope things get better soon. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. After 21 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Blessings.
Praying for you. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
best of luck, Yared. Shared this with my family. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. All the best
Hope things get better soon, Yared. This could happen to any of us. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best
