Aurora
Todd was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in August. The surgeon at Aurora Orthopedic Institute recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $9,250, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $7,400 short. my father has been in and out of Aurora Orthopedic Institute since August. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $9,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Todd struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Todd won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $7,400 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $620 • Physiotherapy sessions: $360 • Post-operative medication: $200 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $2,500 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,720 Thanks for reading all this.
