Thierry was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly in August. The surgeon at Poitiers General Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and He is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $10,250, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $5,150 short. my father has been in and out of Poitiers General Hospital since August. The doctors say a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $10,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Thierry struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Thierry won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $5,150 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,050 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $2,000 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $390 • Post-operative medication: $125 • Physiotherapy sessions: $370 • Travel and lodging for the family: $215 Thanks for being kind about this. - Julien

Updates from Julien

  1. Quick update: $2,043 raised so far (40%). we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Small update. $2,324 so far, the plan for pre-operative tests and imaging is now scheduled.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($881 in total) I met with the hospital and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Thank you. If you're in Poitiers I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Good question.

        • Best of luck. Wishing Thierry a smooth procedure and a full recovery. Wish I lived closer to San Nicolás de los Garza so I could bring a meal. Greetings from Toronto
