For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Pioneer bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $100. It will serve about 586 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $100 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $45 • Safety equipment and signage: $15 • Permits and inspections: $40 Glad we found this place.

  • Keep going, Nneka. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My husband and I read this together.
