For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Baobab bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $135, and the remaining cost is $300. It will serve about 396 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $300 goes: • Materials: $170 • Permits and inspections: $55 • Safety equipment and signage: $55 • Tools hire and delivery: $20 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
