Aberdeen
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 14 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus community hall, but no funding. We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $3,200. It will serve about 552 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $3,200 goes: • Materials: $2,550 • Permits and inspections: $180 • Safety equipment and signage: $340 • Tools hire and delivery: $130 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

  1. Quick update: $903 raised so far (28%). I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($797 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Quick update: $327 raised so far (10%). I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
