The Liberty vacant lot needs a community garden - Wayne's neighborhood project
A community-led a community garden at the Liberty vacant lot that will serve 357 neighbors.
🇬🇧 England, United Kingdom2,109 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,400.
It will serve about 357 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,400 goes:
• Materials: $1,800
• Permits and inspections: $135
• Safety equipment and signage: $310
• Tools hire and delivery: $155
Every share and every dollar helps.

Keep going, Wayne. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Take care.
Thanks for sharing this. Shared this with my family. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. God bless.
