For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Jacaranda vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,000, and the remaining cost is $2,950.
It will serve about 332 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,950 goes:
• Materials: $2,350
• Permits and inspections: $230
• Safety equipment and signage: $125
• Tools hire and delivery: $245
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
Updates from Shawn
Thank you all. We're at 31% now ($921). I'm honestly stunned. the plan for safety equipment and signage is now scheduled.
Update from Wellington: we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. We're at 12% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

Take care. This could happen to any of us. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home
Rooting for you, Shawn. Shared it with a few friends. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. All the best.
