We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a free library and reading room - we need $300 for materials.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $300. It will serve about 519 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in July and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $300 goes: • Materials: $230 • Permits and inspections: $15 • Safety equipment and signage: $50 • Tools hire and delivery: $5 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly. - Umar

Hope it all works out, Umar. Looking forward to the next update. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Greetings from Khulna.

Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Wish I lived closer to Akron so I could bring a meal.

I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My neighbor in Los Angeles donated after I showed her your page. God bless.
