Temitope received an eviction notice - help us catch up on rent

A court summons for non-payment arrived last week. Temitope needs $550 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Ibadan.

After a sudden layoff at the textile factory, Temitope fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Monday a court summons for non-payment was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $550. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by December, the family must leave. There are three school-aged children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Temitope has started working two part-time jobs, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done. Where the $550 goes: • Rent arrears (3 months): $370 • Late fees and court costs: $35 • Utilities in arrears: $15 • First month of rent as a buffer: $130 I hope life is good to you.

Updates from Peace

  1. Wanted to say thank you properly. 7% funded and I made the first payment toward rent arrears.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($30 in total) I made the first payment toward first month of rent as a buffer. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  • A secure home matters so much. Hope you're settled soon. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best.
