Sycamore Beach cleanup and restoration: help our volunteer crew
A neighborhood-led restoration of Sycamore Beach needs $2,300 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 19665, Reading, Pennsylvania, United States2,451 views
Sycamore Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 99 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 159 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $2,300 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $185
• Waste removal and skip hire: $390
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,725
Thank you so much.

can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Reading.
Sharing the link is the biggest thing. And if you know anything about signage and educational materials, advice is welcome too. Appreciate you taking the time.
Rooting for you, Gregory. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Blessings.
How is Gregory doing now?
I hope things turn around soon. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day!
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Gregory.
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. signage and educational materials comes first ($185) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Thanks for looking so closely.
Take care, Gregory. It takes guts to ask. Well done. We're a small family in Austin but we're thinking of you. Love from Austin.
Thinking of you and your family, Gregory. This could happen to any of us. I hope October is when things finally get easier. All the best.
hope it all works out, Gregory. Hope this works out for you. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Greetings from Melbourne.
