After a benign brain tumor, Swati was cleared for ACL reconstruction, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In January I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. My surgeon at Mumbai Orthopedic Institute recommended ACL reconstruction, and I have been placed on the schedule for April. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $930, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $700 short. Doctors at Mumbai Orthopedic Institute told me a benign brain tumor will get worse without ACL reconstruction. I work as a security guard, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $930 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a security guard have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. I'll not be able to lift anything heavy during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $700 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $410 • Post-operative medication: $60 • Travel and lodging for the family: $55 • Physiotherapy sessions: $175 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
