Surgery fund for Zara: a craniotomy in Islamabad
Zara needs a craniotomy at Saint Catherine Hospital and the family is $550 short of the hospital's estimate.

In October I was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly. My surgeon at Saint Catherine Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for January. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $690, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $550 short.
Doctors at Saint Catherine Hospital told me a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without a craniotomy. I work as a hotel cleaner, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $690 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a hotel cleaner have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 12 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $550 goes:
• Post-operative medication: $35
• Travel and lodging for the family: $55
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $170
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $270
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $20
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.
