Zahra was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections in April. The surgeon at Cairo Orthopedic Institute recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $920, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $550 short. my daughter has been in and out of Cairo Orthopedic Institute since April. The doctors say a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $920 is more than we can find. While we wait, Zahra struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Zahra won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $550 goes: • Physiotherapy sessions: $115 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $380 • Travel and lodging for the family: $55 With deep gratitude, Hussein

  • sending good thoughts, Hussein. Shared this with my family. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Love from Bronx

    • Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Wish I lived closer to Aswan so I could bring a meal. All the best.

      • Thinking of you, Hussein. Looking forward to the next update. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best!

Get well soon. After 20 years in nursing I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

          • sending strength, Hussein. This could happen to any of us. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Greetings from Lagos
