In August I was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections. My surgeon at Saint Mary Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,100, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $755 short. Doctors at Saint Mary Hospital told me a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without knee replacement surgery. I work as a market vendor, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,100 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a market vendor have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. I'll not be able to climb stairs during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $755 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $530 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $170 • Travel and lodging for the family: $50 • Post-operative medication: $5 I hope life is good to you. - Tunde

  • Rooting for you, Tunde. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Blessings

    • Thinking of you. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Love from Newcastle upon Tyne.

      • Thinking of you and your family, Tunde. Hope the doctors have good news. Wish I lived closer to Geelong so I could bring a meal
