Surgery fund for Tong: a partial thyroidectomy in Mississauga
After a cleft palate needing repair, Tong was cleared for a partial thyroidectomy, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Tong was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in July. The surgeon at Mississauga University Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $13,750, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $6,900 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Mississauga University Hospital since July. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $13,750 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Tong struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Tong won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $6,900 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,550
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $1,900
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $420
• Post-operative medication: $200
• Physiotherapy sessions: $400
• Travel and lodging for the family: $430
I hope life is good to you.
