Pelotas
Thiago was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections in January. The surgeon at Pelotas University Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and He is scheduled for April. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,850, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $2,000 short. my husband has been in and out of Pelotas University Hospital since January. The doctors say a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,850 is more than we can find. While we wait, Thiago struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Thiago won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $2,000 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,050 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $390 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $220 • Post-operative medication: $100 • Physiotherapy sessions: $145 • Travel and lodging for the family: $95 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
