Sophia was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in August. The surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital recommended ACL reconstruction, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $10,000, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $7,000 short. my daughter has been in and out of Saint Elizabeth Hospital since August. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without ACL reconstruction. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $10,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Sophia struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Sophia won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
