Surgery fund for Silvia: cataract surgery in Rome
A scheduled cataract surgery in September is out of reach without help covering $2,500 of the cost.

Silvia was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in June. The surgeon at Rome General Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $5,000, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $2,500 short.
my mother has been in and out of Rome General Hospital since June. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $5,000 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Silvia struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Silvia won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,000
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $195
• Post-operative medication: $305
