Sharon was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly in May. The surgeon at El Paso General Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $10,500, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $5,200 short.
my mother has been in and out of El Paso General Hospital since May. The doctors say a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $10,500 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Sharon struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Sharon won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
