Sathi was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in July. The surgeon at Saint Francis Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $750, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $600 short. my sister has been in and out of Saint Francis Hospital since July. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $750 is more than we can find. While we wait, Sathi struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Sathi won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $600 goes: • Post-operative medication: $45 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $340 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $215 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

    • Best of luck. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'll check back for the next update. Thinking of Jessore.
