In July I was diagnosed with endometriosis requiring surgery. My surgeon at Utrecht Community Hospital recommended laparoscopic endometriosis surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for October. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $9,000, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $7,100 short. Doctors at Utrecht Community Hospital told me endometriosis requiring surgery will get worse without laparoscopic endometriosis surgery. I work as a care assistant, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $9,000 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a care assistant have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Recovery is expected to take about 4 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $7,100 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,600 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $2,700 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $620 • Post-operative medication: $350 • Physiotherapy sessions: $450 • Travel and lodging for the family: $380 Thank you so much. - Ruben

  • Hope it all works out, Ruben. Hope this works out for you. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. God bless.

    • Thinking of you and your family, Ruben. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. I hope November is when things finally get easier. All the best.
