Robert was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in March. The surgeon at Riverside University Hospital recommended laparoscopic endometriosis surgery, and He is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $9,250, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $7,000 short. my husband has been in and out of Riverside University Hospital since March. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without laparoscopic endometriosis surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $9,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Robert struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Robert won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $7,000 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $4,050 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $1,300 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $590 • Post-operative medication: $195 • Physiotherapy sessions: $400 • Travel and lodging for the family: $465 I hope life is good to you.

    • Stay strong, Janet. Hope this works out for you. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best.
