Columbia
Randall was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections in August. The surgeon at Columbia University Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $9,000, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $4,450 short. my husband has been in and out of Columbia University Hospital since August. The doctors say a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $9,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Randall struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Randall won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $4,450 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,900 • Travel and lodging for the family: $400 • Physiotherapy sessions: $790 • Post-operative medication: $360 Thanks for reading all this. - Aubree

Sure. The biggest one is surgeon and anesthesia fees, $2,900. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. I'll keep the page updated.
