Surgery fund for Rafael: laparoscopic cyst removal in El Paso
After an aortic valve defect, Rafael was cleared for laparoscopic cyst removal, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In May I was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect. My surgeon at El Paso University Hospital recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and I have been placed on the schedule for July. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $12,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $7,550 short.
Doctors at El Paso University Hospital told me an aortic valve defect will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. I work as a warehouse packer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $12,500 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a warehouse packer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 4 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $7,550 goes:
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $3,350
• Post-operative medication: $440
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,550
• Travel and lodging for the family: $350
• Physiotherapy sessions: $860
