Surgery fund for Portia: hip replacement surgery in Accra
After a hernia that has become strangulated, Portia was cleared for hip replacement surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Portia was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in May. The surgeon at Accra University Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,650, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,000 short.
my wife has been in and out of Accra University Hospital since May. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,650 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Portia struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Portia won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.

• Physiotherapy sessions: $60
• Post-operative medication: $40
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $400
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $410
