Portia needs a partial thyroidectomy at Saint Elizabeth Hospital and the family is $700 short of the hospital's estimate.

Portia was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in June. The surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,400, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $700 short.
my mother has been in and out of Saint Elizabeth Hospital since June. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,400 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Portia struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Portia won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
