Pooja was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in June. The surgeon at Mumbai Community Hospital recommended septoplasty, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,350, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $950 short. my mother has been in and out of Mumbai Community Hospital since June. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without septoplasty. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,350 is more than we can find. While we wait, Pooja struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Pooja won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $950 goes: • Travel and lodging for the family: $60 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $90 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $320 • Post-operative medication: $30 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $450 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people. - Kshitija
