Pieter was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal in July. The surgeon at Saint Luke Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and He is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,150, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,600 short.
my father has been in and out of Saint Luke Hospital since July. The doctors say a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,150 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Pieter struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Pieter won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
