Surgery fund for Mónica: septoplasty in Bakersfield
After a benign brain tumor, Mónica was cleared for septoplasty, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In October I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. My surgeon at Bakersfield Orthopedic Institute recommended septoplasty, and I have been placed on the schedule for January. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $4,350, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $3,250 short.
Doctors at Bakersfield Orthopedic Institute told me a benign brain tumor will get worse without septoplasty. I work as a market vendor, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $4,350 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a market vendor have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $3,250 goes:
• Physiotherapy sessions: $550
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,400
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $300
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Wishing you the best, Mónica. Shared this with my family. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day
I hope things turn around soon. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Love from Oakland
