In October I was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly. My surgeon at Saint Petersburg University Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for January. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $2,000 short. Doctors at Saint Petersburg University Hospital told me a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a farm laborer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,500 is far beyond what I've.
