In May I was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair. My surgeon at Saint Matthew Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and I have been placed on the schedule for August. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $15,500, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $7,800 short. Doctors at Saint Matthew Hospital told me a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without emergency hernia repair. I work as a delivery rider, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $15,500 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a delivery rider have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to look after the children alone during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $7,800 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,850 • Physiotherapy sessions: $390 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $2,700 • Post-operative medication: $350 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $510 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot. - Mia

    • Good luck, Mia. Hope this works out for you. My neighbor in 6th of October City donated after I showed her your page. Thinking of Nottingham.

      • take care. Shared it with a few friends. After 20 years in hospitality I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Glasgow!
