Maryam was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in June. The surgeon at Lahore Orthopedic Institute recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $730, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $550 short. my daughter has been in and out of Lahore Orthopedic Institute since June. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $730 is more than we can find. While we wait, Maryam struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks.
