In March I was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair. My surgeon at Rio de Janeiro Community Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for May. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $4,300, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $2,150 short.
Doctors at Rio de Janeiro Community Hospital told me a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. I work as a delivery rider, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $4,300 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a delivery rider have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Manuela!
Sure. The biggest one is surgeon and anesthesia fees, $1,050. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Good question.
